An immunochromatographic test for canine distemper virus antigens in eye and nose swabs (partly also in urine and faeces) of dogs. Distemper is a widespread infection, especially in shelters, among puppies and stray dogs; the virus is shed in urine and transmitted by licking/sniffing. It manifests with central-nervous symptoms, hyperkeratosis of the pads and nose, and gastrointestinal and respiratory involvement. The virus is highly contagious and survives several days without a host — detection calls for immediate hygiene measures. The test quickly detects the agent so therapy can begin.
A confirmatory analysis is recommended after positive results of some tests.
